Statement

As children, we experience the world with a sense of wonder. So many things are new and unexpected. As we grow older, these moments become increasingly rare. Painting brings me back to that feeling of discovering something for the first time.

My practice is guided by the tension between chance and response. I begin with intentional choices of materials, colors and surfaces, but leave room for the unexpected. Water meets pigment, ink spreads across raw linen, textures emerge. I observe what happens and respond intuitively. Each decision becomes the starting point for the next.

I am interested in the archaic, instinctive and childlike as forms of expression beyond language. My visual language is influenced by Abstract Expressionism, spontaneous mark making and calligraphic gestures. The relationship between micro- and macrocosm is a recurring theme in my work. Forms emerge, dissolve and reorganize, often existing somewhere between microscopic structures and cosmic landscapes.

I work mainly with watercolor, ink, oil pastel and graphite on raw linen, cotton and handmade paper. I am drawn to materials that have their own character and respond in unpredictable ways. Stains, layers and traces of movement remain visible, allowing the process to become part of the final image.

My relationship with materials goes back to my background in fashion design and many years of tattooing. Fabric, skin and paper are different surfaces, but each carries traces of gestures and touch.

In an increasingly overstimulated world, painting allows me to reconnect with a quieter, more instinctive form of awareness. I am less interested in fixed meanings than in creating space for perception, curiosity and association.

Background

I studied Design at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Hanover, where I built a strong foundation in drawing and material exploration. Painting has been part of my practice from the very beginning.

For more than a decade, tattooing was my primary artistic medium. I became known for a gestural and painterly approach, founded a contemporary tattoo studio in Berlin, and developed independent projects connecting fine art and tattoo culture.

Today, my artistic practice moves between painting, tattooing and education, with painting at its centre. I continue to explore my visual language across different mediums, occasionally taking on selected abstract tattoo projects.

Drawing on over 20 years of experience as an independent creative professional, I have also begun sharing my knowledge and artistic approach through workshops. My first online workshop, Finding Your Visual Voice, focuses on intuitive processes, experimentation and developing an individual visual language. In-person workshops at my Berlin studio are planned for the near future.
