Part of the ongoing Essence series, this work revolves around perception before interpretation and the tension between intention and instinct.
Many of the gestures emerge before conscious decision-making: a direct and immediate response to material, movement and sensation. Some marks feel deliberate, others uncertain or searching. I’m interested in these moments before interpretation fully takes over; in what is already present from the very beginning.
Ink, gouache, wax pastel and pencil interact on 300 gr handmade cotton paper mounted on beech wood panels. The surfaces remain open and unresolved, preserving the lightness and tension of the first gestures instead of pushing the image toward completion.
Painting allows me to access a form of intuition I rarely encounter elsewhere. Something quiet and instinctive that feels increasingly important to protect within an overstimulated world.
